“He felt wonder and excitement, embracing the world’s cultural past, and fuelled by these continuities he wove his particular secular prayerbook kind of style.” Barok Flasetto, artist and friend

Schmeki was born in Toronto, Canada.

He made videos and songs about things he loved and things he loathed. He left Toronto long ago to live with relatives in villages, far away, and returned recently, producing videos and music. His new video, Apocalypse of Schmeki, will be released soon.

He is the great grandson of four institutional religious men:

a Buddhist monk, a Jewish rabbi, a Christian priest, and a Muslim imam.

I launched this project to find and celebrate my long lost relative. I reconstructed his unfinished older videos based on his notes, on rough versions I found, and on his ideas. Since Schmeki’s arrival the project took a new turn, with several video additions. Schmeki appears and disappears frequently, and the reins of this project are now in the hands of a new undertaker, Gary Popovich.
